Adopting artificial intelligence in the oil and gas sector

First: Project background

In continuation of the Iraqi state's efforts to expand the use of artificial intelligence in strategic sectors and in preparation for building digital sovereignty based on national capabilities, a specialized study was submitted to the Iraqi Ministry of Oil entitled:
"The Safe National Framework for the Adoption of Artificial Intelligence in the Oil and Gas Sector in Iraq"
This is part of the national trend aimed at localizing the uses of artificial intelligence in the oil sector and considering it a national priority in building an advanced and sustainable digital economy.

Second: Study objectives

1. Building national technical and human capacities in the field of artificial intelligence dedicated to the oil industry.
2. Integrating artificial intelligence technologies into extraction, analysis, transportation, and refining processes.
3. Ensuring digital and information security in a highly sensitive work environment, and ensuring that data is not leaked or systems are compromised.
4. Develop a regulatory and ethical roadmap to ensure the safe and sustainable use of smart technologies.

Third: The main axes of the study

1.Assessing the current digital situation in the Ministry of Oil's institutions in terms of technical and human readiness.
2.Establishing a security and legal framework for the use of artificial intelligence technologies within the limits of sovereign privacy.
3. Proposing artificial intelligence tools applied in the oil sector, such as:
* Predicting a decline in production.
* Improving supply chains.
* Discover reservoirs and analyze geological images.
* Automatically monitor leaks and emissions.
4.A plan to train and qualify oil sector cadres in coordination with the Supreme Committee for Artificial Intelligence.

Fourth: The impact of the project on the oil sector

1.Increase oil production efficiency and reduce operational costs.
2.Improve the ability to make technical decisions based on data and intelligent analytics.
3.Enhancing information security and reducing dependence on unsecured foreign systems.
4. Making Iraq one of the leading countries in the digital transformation of natural resources in the region.

conclusion

This study represents an important strategic step towards achieving digital and technological independence in the Iraqi oil sector, and supports the state's move towards an economy based on artificial intelligence, in one of the most important sectors on which Iraq depends for its revenues and economic sovereignty.
